A heart murmur has been detected in Thiago and although the sound of those words initially scared me, its quite common in preemies. It normally happens prior to them turning two weeks and its right on time - Thiago turns just that this coming Sunday. In the photos to the left you can see what the murmur(AKA PDA) looks like and how it would look after surgery, if needed. As of right now, the murmer is large
just because he is so tiny. The doctors are going to keep a close eye on it and in a few days decide whether to medicate or surgically close it.
I have to say that although my baby has once again lost weight and has this lil murmur, I have a sense of peace and calmness in my life - I have never felt so close to God like I do now. I feel blessed and so lucky to have Thiago in my life - he has been such a good little boy. He gets blood drawn from his left foot, has a catheter in his head and another one in his right foot, has had several blood tranfusions, has lost weight and has had several infections -yet through it all he hangs in there - he looks super sweet and we are all so excited to have him home and kiss him all over! I feel so honored to call him my son :) My brother the other day said, "I know this is David's son, but he's my boy" -- he is all of ours!
I have such unconditional motherly love for him!
I continue to receive text messages, emails, cards in the mail with inspirational quotes and prayers. I got a beautiful angel pin and "Everyday Encouragement" book from my sister-in-law, Frances and a ceramic cross (see photo) and baby blanket from Lisbeth and family. I also received an unexpected card from an old co-worker of mine that I worked with in New York that shared the news with her parents (who live in Pennsylvania) and they wrote us! It was unexpected and very touching that people we don't know are praying for our little guy. I would like to thank them, thank you Charles and Karen Burd! I would also like to share something they wrote, "Please be encouraged that God knows where you are and what little Thiago needs to grow and thrive. Our God is a God of miracles and I am confident that he has wonderful plans and a bright future planned for your son." I don't know if each of you read my sister's blog below, but doctors said only a miracle would save Thiago. Isn't that a testament?! Thank you Shannon and Jenica for my cards as well - they do bring a smile!! Finally, Papi (daddy) read "Oh, the places you'll go" by Dr. Suess to Thiago today.
Love and Peace to all!
