Holiday Times

MERRY CHRISTMAS
from David, Aixa and Thiago
I can’t believe the last time I posted was on December 16th! I apologize to all of Thiago’s faithful followers. First off – Merry Christmas! This is the season we remember our blessings and we can’t express enough what a blessing Thiago has been to us. I know he’s been called a fighter a number of times – but he has been a true fighter – not letting anything stop him or affect him.

He successfully finished his second round of the medication for his heart murmur and its been one week and the sound of the murmur has gone from moderate to soft to none!! We can’t confirm its completely closed, but for his nurse not to hear a murmur at all is amazing news to get on this beautiful Christmas day. David and I are just REALLY proud of him. He’s been such a good baby to us – we are very lucky.

Thiago graduated from an intubated respirator to a C-PAP (see picture) although it looks like a big apparatus on his head – he is doing more breathing on his own than the machine doing it for him – so that equals – GOOD NEWS.

But even BETTER NEWS – he graduated to a full nasal canella after only 4 days on the C-PAP! Look how adorable he looks!

He has gradually gained weight for a total of 830 grams (1 pound 13 ounces) he is only 3 ounces away from 2 pounds. He is officially 32 weeks and nurses say he is acting like a pure 32 weeker – he regulates his own temperature, he knows when he is hungry and knows when to wake up for his feedings. Soon he will begin feeding directly from me! He took his first real bath in a plastic container yesterday – he cried the entire time, LOL. His bowel movements are regular and to be impressed by.

A few days ago David and I were able to take a Christmas photo with Thiago. I tried to get him a small outfit that would fit, but anyone who has a preemie that weights less than two pounds, its almost impossible. Here he is without his hat right before we woke him up to take the photos. Once it was time to shine and look his best, Thiago acted like he had just been hatched from his egg and light was a foreign element that he could not be around. SOOOO – with that said – he prefers to retake the pictures next year.

Video below you can see how alert Thiago is with his nasal canella. He is so happy and doing so well.
